Having received a bye into the second round, second seed Sabalenka started sluggishly to find herself in trouble trailing by five games to one but the 24-year-old roared back to save six set points and claim the opening set in the tie-break. After the pair traded breaks other early in the next set, Sabalenka showed her mental toughness again in the tie-break to seal her first win of the season in two hours and 15 minutes. "She's an incredible player with a huge serve, so it was a tough match and I'm super happy with this win." Sabalenka will next face former French Open runner-up Marketa Vondrousova, who handed Kaia Kanepi a bagel en route to a 6-0 6-4 victory. [1/3] Serbia's Novak Djokovic practices ahead of the Adelaide International and Australian Open tournaments, at Memorial Drive Tennis Club in Adelaide, Australia, December 29, 2022. Djokovic was deported on the eve of the 2022 Australian Open in January for not being vaccinated against COVID-19 and received a three-year travel ban for the country. "You can't forget those events, it's one of those things that stick with you," said Djokovic in his first news conference since returning to Australia. I'll do my best to play some good tennis and bring good emotions and good feelings to the crowd." It's been my favourite Grand Slam, the results prove that."
So spare a thought for Roger Federer, the eight-time winner of the tournament, whose plans to visit SW19 recently were almost thwarted by an eager security guard. Though he hadn’t let Wimbledon know he was in town, Federer decided it might be nice to grab tea at the tennis club. “So then I get out and I’m like, ‘Yes, hello, I was just wondering how I can get into Wimbledon? Please believe me, I am a member, where do I get in?’”Federer, who has won Wimbledon eight times, celebrates during the men's singles final against Andy Roddick in 2004. Of course, Wimbledon wants it to be known that in spite of the saga, the door is always open for Federer.
The increase in college tuition and predatory lending have created a situation where, unless you’re fortunate to get a full-ride scholarship or come from a lot of money, students are vulnerable. Though Biden’s debt relief focused on federal student loans, there have been problems with private lenders as well, including the suit against student loan giant Navient. Research has shown that student loans increase access to financing and add to student diversity, which is great, but data also shows that women and people of color are disproportionately more likely to have debt. Student debt relief is one way to let people be people, first and foremost, and loanees second. But we need to do these things because we choose to and not because our college system is broken.
As a University of Southern California student in the late 1940s, John Shea may have seemed an unlikely candidate to run his family’s construction company, a venerable outfit that had helped build the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge. By his own later admission, he spent little time on his civil-engineering studies and was most interested in playing varsity tennis or gambling on backgammon and poker games, some of which lasted all night. One evening, he blew his entire savings, more than $2,000, on a craps game at the Los Angeles Tennis Club, he said in an oral history recorded by one of his sons. His mother had to talk him out of quitting school in his senior year.

Tucker Carlson is remembered as a provocateur and gleeful contrarian by those who knew him in his early days. It was Tucker Carlson. (Note on style: Tucker Carlson and the members of his family are referred to here by their first names to avoid confusion.) In 1979, Richard Carlson married Patricia Swanson, heiress to the Swanson frozen foods empire that perfected the frozen Salisbury steak for hassle-free dinners. Tucker Carlson attended St. George’s School, a boarding school starting at age 14.
